SUPPER CLOTH - MAKING ART THROUGH COMMUNITY STITCHING 16 - 27 SEPTEMBER
Over two weeks, 16 - 27 of September, we are inviting local groups and schools to Alice Billing House, to contribute to our bespoke “Supper Cloth”. We’re inviting people to sit down, slow down, and feed their creativity through stitching and co-creating a communal piece of embroidered art!
This facilitated embroidery event is based around the large 3-meter embroidery table with a printed cloth designed with iconography relating to the history of Alice Billing House and Newham. It will then be embellished with stitches by the community over the two weeks.
Participants will explore a wealth of embroidery stitches, learn together and create a communal supper cloth to celebrate the art of needlework and the building's history. The finished cloth will form a legacy piece of art and will be on display in Alice Billing House.
The Supper Cloth can seat 6 people at a time and workshops are free to attend.
The Supper Cloth will be available to the general public to participate during our Open Studios on the 21st of September. On this day visitors will get the opportunity to explore the newly converted South Block of Alice Billing House, visit the private studios of the artist it houses, and learn about the building’s history and future plans of the North Block.
The Open Studios is also part of The Open House Festival program.
