BALANCE: ART AND WELLBEING

25 MAY 2023

PART OF HIVE CURATE’S ALICE BILLINGS CONNECTS PROGRAMME (2023)

As part of their Alice Billings Connects project, Hive Curates launched this event to promote positivity and belonging on the high street and was held at The Old Town Hall Courtyard outside Alice Billing House.

The event, following on from Mental Health Awareness week, aimed to encompass a series of sensory activations promoting calm and positivity. Hive Curated wanted to create a moment of reflection on our high street and allow people time to connect and switch off. They collaborated with a variety of local artists to produce this event. more info on this below;

Sense Collective created some meditative soundsduring the day for us. They are a Multimedia platform bringing trans-disciplinary art practitioners together to explore, reflect and connect through their work.

Kim Gichinga has been a Yoga teacher for 5 years now and has lived in Newham her whole life. Culture, community and wellbeing are close to her heart.

Johanna Posselt Walsh is a fashion and textile designer local to Stratford. She lead a 2 hour weaving workshop using recycled fabrics on a bespoke frame for the event. She is a passionate about community and bringing culture to the neighbourhood.

East London Dance, a well known dance collective in East London ended the day with a hip hop and popping shake off. It was an incredible experience to be connected with an organisation who is deep rooted in the fabric of Newham who also believes that creative leaders are essential to developing stronger local communities.
